I'm tring ti help a friend find this file cmapien.vxd. Windows keeps asking for it it says it can't find it. All the devices are working fine however slower than before this error started occurring.

Any information would be appreciated.

That's not a native windows 98 file. See if you can figure out what program uses it, and reinstall the program.

It has something to do with MAPI - has he recently "deleted" a mail app of some sort?

You can back up the registry - then search the registry for "cmapien" and delete any keys found. Check the obvious first - like the startup. Don't forget system.ini and win.ini .
