OverOverClock?

Well my system, Pentium IV 3.0Ghz and Geil platinum DDR 500 PC4000 1024mg (2x512MB)

I want to overclock, but I want to know where to stop and how do I know when to stop? What are the signs? And how do you guys know when to stop at an acceptable level?

When the system starts to become unstable, retreat to the step you done before the unstableness set in, and that level will be the maximum you should go to under the current circumstances. Eg, if you increased the FSB to say 213 and the system is unstable then go back to 212 ect..
Keep an eye on the temperature also, you don't want the system becoming to hot, and causing damage.

You should be able to get a few hundred mhz out of that chip pretty easily, especially with such fast RAM. As you overclock, go slowly. Bump your FSB up by smally increments, 5-10mhz, and check temperatures and stability. If temps are hitting over 50C at load, you should probably stop. Also, after each bump in speed run a program like Prime95 (http://www.mersenne.org/prime.htm ) or 3dmark (www.futuremark.com). This will stress the system, if it locks up, your overclock needs to be bumped back. The ultimate sign of going too high is a no-boot but hopefully you wont have that happen. :)

wahat should be conncected up at the time I overclock? IS there a chance of damagin any other components?

Well with overclocking the CPU there is a chance of damaging your CPU, RAM, and Motherboard....although this is unlikely with today's boards, and if you overclock your video card....you will only damage that.

What is the easiest wasy to over clock a XP 2400/266 I know you can ulock the chip, but that seems like it is a pain. And is there a program that shows you how fast your going after you over clock it

Just be sure to lock the AGP and PCI buses (if possible with your motherboard). If the PCI bus goes too far out of spec, you'll get data corruption on your hard drive.

But why would you even want to overclock a 3.0GHz processor anyway? Isn't that fast enough for you already?

you should easily be able to get to 3.3 - 3.4, but you are never going to reach the full potential of your RAM unless you water or phase change cool

yeh i kno, but the ram cud come useful later, i cud jus dishout less ££ for the 3700s but im really not that bothered
