how to use more than 500mg ram in win 98se ??

Im wondering if there is a workaround to solve the little glitch's that occour when running win 98se with more than 500mg ram. I have a msi k7n2g-L board that suports 128 dual chanel when two piece ddr are installed. So I have a 256 and a 512 but when I boot from 98se i start getting some system hangs here and there. I also can boot into xp and it likes the extra memory. any way i was wondering if anyone knew of a specific tweak to get 98se to work smooth with the extra memory. Thank-you very much. nahiku7

Well, there is a sollution for the more than 512 MB RAM issue in Windows 9x. . which I don't know. What I wanted to tell you is that if you want the dual channel setup you have to use 2 identical RAM sticks for that, not one 256 and a 512, that won't work.

They recommend removing all but 512mb from the system (while the system is shutdown & powered off, of course). Reboot. Then add the MaxFileCache=524288 line to the [vcache] section of your system.ini file. Reboot. Then shutdown, power off, add the extra memory back in. That usually works pretty well. Note that they do have another method if it doesn't (which involves the System Configuration tool).

Like RJ mentions, to use the nForce dual channel memory controllers, it's best to have a matched pair of modules, same size & speed. Otherwise the system will default back to single channel.

thanks guys sorry i didnt respond sooner but I ended up spending the last few days in microsofts librarry,i dont even know what day it is,and after messing with my reg about a dozen times i do believe that 500mg ddr is just fine. thanks again.
