 Got a E Machine with Win98 running 64 meg ram on a 466 Mhz system.
Problem is the start up has 3 things come up that I am not sure what they go to. When I go to msconfig start up and try to keep them from starting it never will let me stop that.
01. wupdater.exe 02. winnet.exe 03. comwiz.exe When I do boot up it takes some time before it will let me do anything, then if it freezes I hit CTRL ALT DELETE and find the updater in the window says not responding, If I shut that down then the Windows OS goes back to normal. I have also received a window that asks if I want to work off line, Can't seem to find the place to make sure it is not seeking the Internet on boot up. Internet program being used is AOL 8.0 ANy help is appreciated!

Thanks Chuck (Strowhat)

the updater thing is spyware. proly all of them are.
download spybot from this link. there are three files you can download. spybot, detection and tools. install spybot. then install tools. tools will go in the spybot directory ending with the numbers 1.1
the detection files needs to be directed to the spybot folder (these are in program files) without the 1.1 on the end of the folder name.
first immunize. it will tell you there are 506 products that can be blocked. click ok and then look just below that place where you clicked ok and click immunize. then click the search and destroy box at the upper left of the screen and then below towards the bottom click check for problems. when it is done click fix problems.

http://www.safer-networking.org/
on the first page click downloads then on the next page look down a few lines and you will see the goodies.

The origin of those files, in case you're wondering:

wupdater = eUniverse "Keen Value" spyware
winnet = "Common Name Toolbar" spyware
comwiz = "Common Name Toolbar" spyware

If you follow taco's advice, SpyBot's tool should take care of these (and possibly several more) for you. They often arrive along with free downloads.

Thanks, to all replies! I will try this right away! My daughter must be causing this as she just won't quit the down loads
