Can anyone help with this? I have burned a bunch of graphic images (eps format) on some cd's. Software is Nero, burner is a 48X, CDr's are 52x Verbatim 700mb...not usually any problem with any of these.
The program says successfully burned and when you check the cds they show all the data on there, correct file sizes etc. EXCEPT I CAN'T OPEN the files! I have tried opening them with several programs I have that can view that type of file and they all give me the same error message -
"Can't read file header!" "Unknown file format"
What the heck is this??
Are the cds trash now? They are almost full and I can't open a single file on any of them. What is likely the problem? Did Nero not burn them correctly or bad cdr's or what? P.S. I did try them on another computer and same error message. Thanks for any help.
What happens if you copy them back off the CD and try to open them from the hard drive?

What software are you using to try and open these files, i successfully downloaded some EPS files and opened them with photoshop just to test if it would work. I also successfully imported these into Microsoft Word Documents. Windows picture viewer however was unable to read the files.

GLC - no I tried that and they still do not open.
Craig100 - I use Corel and it opens all my eps files no problem, just not these ones on these cds.

I'm not sure if I know what I'm talking about ,but have you tried to uncheck the read only on the files ?

Not sure about "read only" unchecking, how do I do that?
complete - what do you mean about closing the cd? I use nero and do them as multisession which has always worked great for me. Could you tell me how to try closing it??? Thanks!

closing the cd is like finalizing it so you can record at different times without closing it and close it when your done
but as it has worked before i assume that nero does that automatically so its probably not the problem
but its probably somewhere in options i dont kno since i dont have nero

I wish someone else would join in on this one cause I'm still not sure , but put your cd in and double click on my computer/click on d or where your cd is and open a file , right click and than click on properties , that should show if you have read only checked ,try unchecking it and see if that will let you copy or open them.
You can't remove the read-only attribute from a file that's on a CD, but when you copy it to the hard drive, you can and should if you ever want to make any changes to it.

murph, when you open from the CD, try selecting in your Open Image box the file type PS, PRN, EPS - Post-Script Interpreted. Opening it as a Corel EPS file may work from your hdd, but I wonder if in burning it lost its native format. HTH
Maybe one of the image files was defective. When I installed a burner in a friends PC and did the first burn, only a few pictures were burned successfully and the rest was just black. The reason was a defective image, after that image all images were defective too. After deleting that image we burned again and it burned fine. I always use the "check after burning" option to make sure all the data has been burned successfully.
