This isn't a big problem, but more of a nuisance. When I try to start Quake 3,it loads up but on occasion, the sound playing at the time will repeat a few times...like da de da de da,,,,de da,,de da,,,de da..and then it will start. And this sometimes happens during the game also. Whats the prob?

What soundcard do you have? Do you have the latest drivers? What OS? What other hardware is in your system? Is there any irq sharing? As you see I need a litte bit more info:)...HTH

I have a Soundblaster Live value. Not sure if I have the latest drivers. I've had the card for a bit over a year now. Windows 98. Other hardware? Good grief....a HP 9101 CD writer. 128m sdram. 20g HD. Cable modem w/network card. printer and scanner. I don't believe its sharing any IRQ settings with anything else. I had this prob before, and it would REALLY repeat to the point of freezing the system. It has started doing this again, but very minor, when I installed Q3 Team Arena mission pack. So maybe the new pack doesn't like the SC drivers? The computer,by the way,is a K7 500,nearly two years old now- ancient in computer years ;)

An irq conflict would probably flare up right after bootup into windows, not during a game. I'm guessing a liveware update and/or a game patch might be your ticket here. System is plenty beefy to handle that game with little or no hickups. What speed is that hard drive spinning at? You using DMA 33 or 66?
Liveware 3 has been out on Creative's web site for a while. Try that if you're not using it already. See if it helps. Good luck!

Forgot to mention I have a Creative GeForce 32meg vid card. And it's a 7200 speed HD. How do I find out whether it's DMA 33 or 66? No game patch has helped, and I'll check for that Live driver update. Thanks!
