Subwoofer Cutoff

I have a Polk PSW-202 sub in my home theater setup. I was wondering what would be the best level to have the low pass set at. The sub does not have an LFE input. Should I just turn it up all the way and let the reciever do the splitting? I have been using it with the knob about 1/4 the way up.

Well, consider the frequency octave ranges: 20Hz, 40Hz, 80Hz, 160Hz, 320Hz, and so on. If your receiver can attenuate the cut off, let it. Many receivers have selectable sub outs in octaves. Usually 80Hz and 160Hz. My personaly preference is 80Hz since I have full range speakers for my fronts (40Hz-22KHz). So I let my sub do what I feel it should in a home theater, make me feel the lows.

Thank you. I have full range speakers in the front and back and have the reciever set accordingly. Should I just leave the setting on the sub at its highest?

Is the knob a volume control or a frequency sweep?

I can't for the life of me rad those numbers, but they look like 40, 100, and 180. Anyway, if your reciever has a LFE setting and you're using it, just set the sub someplace above what your reciever is set for.

Sorry about that. The numbers are 80 - 100 - 180. Anyway, thanks for the help. I just wasn't sure where I should have it set.
