I have a Compaq DeskPro and I am using Windows 98SE. Recently I ran McAfee. When I turned on the computer again I got an error message that said: "The Tahoma Fonts not present." I did restore the Tahoma fonts from MS Publisher.

Now here's the problem / question:

Ever since then, I am seeing a different font and font size, when (say) I double cliclk on My Computer and it says:
"select an item to view its description".

What controls this font size and type???

In general, what controls the font type and size for all the text - that I cannot change?

And, finally - How can I change the font size and type for these items??? (Example: when you click on Start, then Programs and you look at the font type and size - is it possible for me to change this font type and size???)

Thank you.

All the fonts you're used to seeing on menus, windows, and toolbars can be set from the Display applet in your Control Panel. There are several standard and commonly used "themes", so if you were previously using one of these, you can restore it by selecting it from a list. There are also themes from the "Plus!" packs that come with many OEM computers, if you had such a theme [such as "Nature", "Baseball", "Science", "Travel", etc --> these contain more-or-less matched sounds, screen savers, screen colors, and fonts] you can choose one of these, or re-select your original choice.

Did McAfee find and clean a virus? If you have a clean backup of your Registry, you can restore that, too, to return to your previous settings. [to restore from a DOS command prompt, type "scanreg/restore" without the quotes]. If you've installed programs since that backup, they may need to be reinstalled. Scan for viruses again just to make sure nothing was hiding in your backup copy of the Registry.

[p.s. the fonts in IE are controlled in it's Tools/Internet Options menus --> use the Fonts button on the General tab]
