I am trying to install my new HP PSC 2510 printer.

I got all of the drivers installed and it installed the software and asked to reboot. I rebooted and received this message

While initializing device IOS: Error: Real mode system memory allcoation failed.

It won't continue to boot at that point!

I'm running Win98 SE, AMD 1.1, 256Meg, and 30 Gig harddrive.

I seached HP's website and didn't find anything for this error. I am unistalling the software and going to do a windows update and try to reinstall.

any suggestions?

thanks
mike

I uninstalled all the software that the HP install disk installed. Still have the same error. I even ran scanreg at the command prompt. No go.

I'm on with HP tech support now, ran through a few things with them and got put on hold. I think I've got them stumped also!

That almost sounds like bad ram.

HP tech had me restore the registry from yesterday,
scanreg /restore and everything is working again.
We went thru the installation again, rebooted and got the
same error.

still possibily bad ram?

How can I test the ram?

You can try DocMemory or Memtest86 - or by substitution.

You running any memory managers in config.sys? (himem.sys, emm386.exe)

Ok, I'll give them a try.

Yes, I believe Himem is running. I did try and disable all startup items and autoexe files and that didn't help.

The HP tech never did figure it out. I got the, "I'll have to check a few things and call you back in 20 minutes." Yeah never recevied that call.

So I restored the registery from the 24th, uninstalled the software, ran windows update. Reinstalled the HP software and have not seen the error. But none of the programs that were installed will run. I keep getting some type of script error.

any more suggestions?

thanks
mike

Now try repairing IE.

To repair IE just do an update or install new version?

If it's in add/remove programs, repair is in the removal menu.

Ok, so I did the repair of IE and still get the same error.

I've attached a screen capture of the error.

I've looked thru HP's site for this error and found nothing.

any more suggestions?

thanks
mike

Easiest thing to do is go into Internet Options, Advanced, and turn off "display a notification about script errors" and make sure "disable script debugging" is checked.

What version of IE are we dealing with here?

Yup,

"display a notification about every script errors" was unchecked
"disable script debugging" was checked

Version 6.0.2800.1106IC
updated versions SP1; Q832894; Q330994; q313829

Ok I was just on for the last hour with HP and still no go.
They had me try and reinstall the SP1 for IE version 6 when
I told them I had it installed. We uninstalled all the HP software
reinstalled it and then they wanted me to enter this at the run command:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll and it should fix the problem. NOPE that
didn't work, still have the same problem. This is really starting to upset me!
