I have been getting a very high pitch squeel coming from inside my monitor. Anyone have any ideas on what this might be caused from. It only happens once and a while and only once my computer boots up to the desktop. I have a viewsonic 17 in monitor about 2 years old with a radeon 9000 pro sound card. Thanks

You mean a Radeon 9000 Pro video card. Anyway, it probbly has nothing to do with the video card. My best guess that the monitor is on it's way out. Although I have seen some TV's that make an audible squeal when turned on. It could be fine. I'm sure someone else knows more about it.

Yea, video card, sorry. It's hard to believe that this viewsonic is "on it's way out" after only two years. I thought viewsonic was a pretty good brand........
I guess this is just another good reason to invest in a flat panel.

Don't take my word for it. I am probably wrong. Anyway, Veiwsonic is a good brand but there are always bad apples. The problem with LCD's is that no one really knows how long they will last. The technology is still fairly new and in my eyes CRT is the best deal right now if you aren't worried about desk space.

Rule of thumb when buying anything electronics wise, I always buy the extra coverage for the product whether or not I use it. The manufacture warranty usually is on yr only.
My recent Samsung which is in my sig died after one yr why not sure, but went back to best buy where I bought it and got a viewsonic in exchange. The Samsung model I had was no longer being sold by the Co.

Lower your resolution, see if that works...

Years ago, before I retired, I worked as an electronics/TV tech
and we had this problem in the horizontal sweep circuit which
was caused by a coil with an adjustable center. It was an
irritant but caused no harm. Perhaps your monitor will last a
long time if you can live with the noise.
