I have just upgraded to 2500+ CPU, ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe Motherboard, GECube Radeon 9600 XTG, and have now got a couple of hard drives, CD ROMs and a floppy. Everything has been installed without a problem - except for my pre-exixting floppy drive. I have installed Windows 2000. I initially forgot to connect up the power to the floppy, but the system recognised it . I believe I connected up the IDE(?) cable with pin 1 the correct way around, but there are no identifying marks on the rear of the floppy to let me know which way it is. Pin 5 is missing on the floppy, but the cable does not have this blocked, so it can be connected either way.
When I try to get the drive to read a disk through windows, it takes 30 seconds return a message to say that I am to insert a disk into it. The green led on the drive stays constantly illuminated, whether the disk is in there or not. It does not sound like the drive is actually rotating to read the disk. I am pretty sure that I connected the led to the motherboard with the correct polarity - as all my other leds are connected correctly.
I have also uninstalled/reinstalled the floppy drive a couple of times
Have I wrecked the floppy drive? Is this a hardware or software problem? Any ideas?
