I recently read this (http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Sections-article50-page16.php) article at tomshardware.com on WPA (Wireless Protected Access).

It mentioned (on page 16) that some clients and APs wont work together properly with WPA enabled if the chipsets are different.

I have an Agere/ORiNOCO card built into my laptop and I would like to use it in setting up a WLAN.

However, the same chipset APs are very expensive and harder to find. So I would like to use a cheaper Belkin, Linksys, D-link or Netgear AP.

However I have no way to know if these brands of APs will work with my laptops circuitry with WPA on.

So I was wondering if anyone here has used an Agere client and an AP from the above brands together with WPA on or would be willing to test them for me in this way?

If you can I would appreciate it, I dont want to buy a $50 AP that wont work.

Thanks all.

a good source of compatability (not sure if it will cover what you are asking) is www.wifi.org

Umm there's nothing at all at that site, it just says "WKWICF0 SERVICE PORTAL"

Are you sure that's the right link?
