Well im still having a problem connecting to my roomates network. I just can't figure it out. I have everything set up correctly. I have all the latest drivers but still I can't connect. I can connect to their router and im getting an ip address from the dhcp server but I cant connect to their computers. Whenever I click on view workgroup I get an error saying access not allowed. I can however connect to their computers when I boot into safe mode with networking. Also I bought a laptop yesterday and when I plug it in to the router it works perfectly fine and I can connect the network with no problems. Its not a huge deal since I can still connect to the internet but I would like to get this figured out.

What OS is on the computer that can't connect to the network?

Is that PC able to surf on the internet in normal mode, just unable to see other computers?

What type of Router and modem(ADSL or Cable)?

My desktop and my laptop are both using xp pro. Both can connect to the internet in normal mode but my desktop can only connect to the network in safe mode. Were using a 4 port linksys router.

Leaves me wondering, it must be something in start up blocking your network connections. Firewalls, spyware, possible damage to the winsock files.

in win xp you can reset TCP/IP in the command prompt by running the following to lines

start > run >cmd>enter
(type the following in command prompt)
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt<enter>
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt<enter>
exit<enter>
then reboot your system

Sounds to me like the XP firewall is turned on, this will kill local sharing access unless you install Netbeui on all the machines.
