HI Guys,

Now that my new PC is up & running. I would like to copy everything but the operating system old has (WindowsME) new has Windows XP.

I want to doublecheck this, would I just put the old harddrive in as a 2nd harddrive making it a slave, copy & paste my stuff & then I can just take it out again?

Do you forsee any problems with this?

Thanks!

phoebe

Yes, that should work just fine for the data.

You will have to reinstally most apps, though, as they make changes to the registry that won't be transferred with your method.

OK, Thanks! Most of the stuff is just plain data.

BTW. What would be the easiest way to transfer applications correctly?

Thanks,

phoebe

The easiest way is just to reinstall them. Some simple applications (like freeware you download from the 'net) may just consist of an EXE file, and then you can just move it over. However, more complicated applications make changes to the registry, install DLL files in various locations, register ActiveX controls, and so forth. To ensure that everything is set up correctly, you really have to reinstall it.
