Raid 1

Hey guys, I'm building a computer for a work buddy and I'm trying to use 2x120GB Western Digital SATA drives in a raid 1 configuration. I can't get Windows to see the drives, although I can see them in the bios. I know this is due to the fact that i haven't installed my "3rd party" raid drivers, but I can't for the life of me find them on WD's website. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

If there's onboard RAID on your mobo, there will be a driver disk that came with the mobo. If you're using a pci RAID controller card, you need to go to the card manufacturer's website. Either way, WD will not have the RAID driver you are looking for. You'll have to go to whoever manufactured your RAID controller (onboard or otherwise).

The motherboard is a Gigabyte 8KNXP (875P). I went through everything on the CD that came with it, it came with an executable that you are supposed to run to put driver files on a floppy. I tried doing this, and Windows setup does not like it. So, I am pretty much at a loss as to what I should do now. Anyone out there have this board? I understand now why I went Intel with my build....:mad:

Thanks for the reply glc, It's still having troubles though. the problem is that it needs the driver for the silicon image sata raid chip, not the ich5r. there are two sets of sata ports, sata0_SB/sata1_SB, and sata0_Sil/sata1_Sil. I can guess that Sil=Silicon image chip, but I'm not sure what SB is referring to, or which to use. I've tried all of the drivers on the cd that came with the mobo, as well as the one you linked to, with the drives plugged into both sets of ports. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks...

SB is Southbridge I think - the ICH5R.

Go back to the Gigabyte site and get:

Silicon Image SATA driver 3112 ATA:1.1.0.52 RAID: 1.0.0.33 Win9x, WinMe, Win2000, WinXP, WinNT 1.63 MB

Go download a copy of Winrar and install it, and right click on the executable you downloaded. Select Open with Winrar. Double click on the Si3112r folder you see, then double click on the Si3112r folder you see inside that. Extract all the files in that folder to a floppy and use that when you hit F6. This assumes that you have set up the raid array in the bios on the Sil controller and the drives are on the Sil ports.

Of course, you could just move the drives over to the ICH5R and use that driver after setting up that array in bios.

Thanks for the replies, I finally figured it out. For a seasoned veteran, it's a pretty embarassing mistake....suffice to say it had something to do with "floppy" and "power". Anyway, all appears to be raided correctly now, thanks again.
