Man, I am losing it. I'm getting old and I am forgetting everything I have ever learned and whats worse, is I feel like I have my tail between my legs.
I'm no PC geru but I have learned along the way. I learned to network 2 or more PC's with NT4 and 9x, Novell, users and groups etc...
But now I cant get win XP pro to see win 98 2nd ed.
Not like I have never done it before. And all it took was to run the wizard and put the floppy in the other machine. Prest-o.
First, its not a hardware problem. These 2 boxes are partitioned and when I boot to 98 on PC 1 and 98 on PC2 they can see each other and share. If I boot to 98 on PC 1, and 2000 on PC 2 they are fine. Its when I boot to XP on PC 1, that I can not see the other PC no matter what OS its in.
I had the services farckled so I put them back to default (xp pro). I have gone thru the steps ten times. I have even started to add un-necessary protocols. I am admin, everything is fine in device manager.
I am using a HUB (netgear) In Network conections, both adapters show, since I have DSL the westell shows along with the netgear adapter, both enabled, not firewalled. No other internet security
I have set up the netwrk as having a web connection and as a LAN only.
I AM AT A LOSS

Never Mind,
But, I know, I'm positive, that I did not have to "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP". Why this time? I have no idea!
But it worked.
Ifg anyone can explain this to me I'd appreciate it.

It's a XP "feature" (bug). You asked about NetBeui in another thread, that's my strong recommendation for a home LAN rather than expose all your shares through TCP/IP. I also think I've chewed on this with you before, but get a router instead of dealing with internet connection sharing, it will be a nominal sum of money well spent.

appreciate the help glc, but some days a " nominal sum of money" can seem like a "lot" of money. But I will look around for a deal.
thanks
