Let me say this first. I know nothing about wireless networks. Now thats out of the way, I can explain what I want to do.
Finally this month, my family's 56k ISP subscription ended and now we are looking to get Cable internet. The problem is we have four computers spread throughout the house. Two up stairs and one in the living room and one in the basement. I figured I could network all of them together via a wireless network.
My question is: What do I need to accomplish this? Can you direct me to some sites that will help me out? Do the wireless routers and wireless adapters I buy ahev to be the same brand? Is this the best solution or is there a better way to network my computers (my dad doesn't like the idea of routing cables through the wals)? I want them to all have Internet access (fast), file and printer sharing, etc. Thanks!

You need a wireless cable/DSL sharing router, one standard NIC for the computer that the cable modem and router will be next to, and a wireless NIC for each of the other machines.

I recommend you match brand and protocol (a, b, g) for easiest configuration. If you want speed for file sharing, get wireless - "G" equipment (802.11g). I recommend PCI cards rather than USB, they are more reliable. My preferred brands are Linksys, D-Link, and SMC.

Depending on your house's layout and many other factors, you may need extra antennas, you won't know till you try it.
