I have an problem that I have never heard of before.

On a fresh install of XP pro, with Norton internet security, and Office 2k premium installed. The very first time I try to go on the internet, I cannot access microsoft.com (or any microsoft site!) through the internet. Other sites work fine- yahoo, google, random,.com.
Just microsoft, hotmail, windows update link in XP pro, all NO GO ?!?

I need to update this fresh install, and this is kinda frustrating. I try to go to the site (and I am POSITIVE that I am typing the urls correctly), and the bottom of the browser says it's trying to connet to microsoft.com.org/...
WTF?!?

I tried turning internet security off but that didn't help.
Tried re-installing ISP software, that didn't help. Same ISP on a different computer can access the sites NP.
I can't ping microsoft (they block it) from any computer.
I tried to see if it is DNS problem by typing 207.46.245.222 in the browser.
All same result: page cannot be displayed!

Oh, the build has worked perfect before. It was having problems installing the updates it loaded before (would always hang) so I just deleted/formated ALL partitions and reinstalled XP.
Board KM2M combo L, 1800+ processor, 256mb ram, quality 350 watt PSU, 80GB hdd, CD-RW and Floppy.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Did you by chance clear the cmos and not set the date/time? I know it sounds silly but I've seen it happen with MS updates.

Jimmie's right, I just had a friend that couldn't access updates until the time/date was set correctly.

I didn't clear CMOS, but I just checked the date/time and they are current.

You didn't write any hate mail to Bill, did you? Just kidding. I have never heard of this problem before. Let us know what you figure out.

Microsoft.com.org????? Something is not right here.

Check your hosts file, flush your DNS cache, make sure you don't have any proxies enabled.

In the Norton Client Security disable it and see if you can access the site. If you still can't then open Norton Client Security then select options and then click Advance Options. Add microsoft.com under Web and set it to allow everything (including Active Contents)

Let us know what happens

I really do not understand what happened. It works now. I did not chage anything. I actually shut down the computer for a couple days due to the intensity of my studies, and found time to figure it out today- but I am even more confused than before.
I thought maybe a problem with Microsoft website, but my other computer could access no problem when this "broken" one couldn't. I think I am gonna have to run AVG just in case norton is missing something. And I need to run spybot (I already run AdAware weekly). With all the wierd little problems I have been experiencing with my computers and handheld, I am beginning to think this house is haunted.
lol computer poltergeist!

I'm gonna attribute the flakiness here to Norton Internet Security - it's been known to do weird things. Their antivirus is fine, but the rest of the stuff is just complicated bloatware.

yeah, their firewall bites.
I've been wanting to install sygate on my network for a while, just haven't had time.
