My dog, a 49 lb. Sharp-ie mix, ate a bottle of ibueprofine yesterday. The vet wanted to charge $1000 which i don't even have for myself much less the dog. So he told me to Give him pepcid and keep fluids like gatorade and pedialight running thru him to prevent kidney failyer. Then he started shivering and going into shock so after a 50$ phone call to the aspca poison line i find out hes in shock and to quit the flids till this morning and keep him on the pepcid. Aparently motrin is highly axidic in the animals stomach and esphogas. So I wake up today and hes still alive and kind of back to normal. He really likes the pedialight which is good cause we have to flush his kidneys to keep them working. Motrin can do a lot of damage to stomach liver and kidneys in a dog so don't give it to your dog

At least it cured his headache. Poor dog, he is going to be wanting pedialite the rest of his life. Good that you saved yourself $1000, better that you saved your bud.

I didn't save myself 1000 dollars i didnt have it to begin wiht. The bad thig was the vet didnt even give me at home care options till they knew i didnt have the money.

I remember when my golden retriever ate a bag of Hershey Nuggets, a huge amount of chocolate even for a person. The vet told us to feed her some hydrogen peroxide to get her to vomit it all up.

She was okay, but I know how freaky it can be when your bud might die.

Heck, Motrin will kill your stomach also. It is worst than Aspirin at causing your stomach lining to bleed.

I'd never give that {insert things I can't say here} of a "Vet" any business again, ever, and I would share that info with everybody I knew. What's wrong with a stomach pump? Dogs vomit, he should have made him vomit some how. To me, that vet didn't give a {more bad words} if your dog lived or died!. --- the money hungry {you got the idea}.....

I sure hope your family member comes thru OK!

Well he was spazaming a little more last night right before I went to bed so I stayed up with him till he was feeling better. We have him on a regamint of baby food, pepcid ac, and pedialight. I think we are in the clear on stomach ulcers. We are just worried about kidney faliure and liver faliure now. Yes two rails we are doing just that. This vet had gotten money hungry and lost sight of why he was a vet. Most vets i know will take care of the animl first then worry about the money. This guy was the exact opposite. Only time will tell now. I will be a little worried for about 2 more weeks. Then form all that I read if hes acting normal and eating and drinking regularly he should be in the clear.
