I just set up 2 new Dell P4s on a friend’s business network. The only way I can get the new machines on the network (and access the internet) is to manually enter the DNS server address under TCP/IP General Properties (192.168.1.1). The other machines are set to “Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically”. But when I try this setting, the new Dells can’t access the network. What’s up? DHCP is handled by their Beon firewall if that is relevant.

is it setup to obtain ip address's automatically as well?
if so set the dns to obtain dns automatically. then reboot.
after rebooting, go to a command prompt and type in
ipconfig /all
check the ethernet adapter see that it has a vaild ip address and that the dns server ip address show up in there correctly.
after that, check the dhcp server on the firewall

Yeah, it's set to obtain IP addresses automatically. I'll check into your other suggestions.
Thanks,

I think I got it fixed; I changed the DNS setting back to auto, then I used ipconfig /release and renew. Works now.
