Is it all right to mix and match switch brands (Linksys, D-link, gigafast, etc.)? I know it's not a good idea for routers, but I'm not sure about switches. The situation I'm in is that I want to get a new switch, and I currently use a Linksys router. Does the switch HAVE to be Linksys as well, or can it be anything? The reason I ask is the Linksys switch is rather pricey, but some of the other makers have switches with the same number of pors for a cheaper price.

I would recommend staying with the same brand to insure compatability isues that may or could arise, not to say that it will, just to be sure that it don't.switching hubs should not be a problem at all.

Exactly what kind of compatibility issues may arise if the switch brand is different then the router?

None, simple switches should all be 100% compatible.
The only situation where I prefer to stick with same brand is wireless routers/access points and wireless nics.
