internet very slow

hey gang. I have a P4S800 ASUS mother board, 1 gig of ram. I have DSL with Verizon, but for some time the connection seems to be extremely slow, It is very dificult for me to play Counter Strike, and surf. What can cause the problem.?

Go on over to http://www.dslreports.com/stest and do a speed test to see if it is your connection or something else.

ok. I will do that. Only problem is that I am at work and I will have to go to home later it is only 2:38pm here in CA.
I downloaded a driver for my connection I wonder if that has to do anything with it.?

The only driver you might need is if your modem is USB, and that by itself can be a pain in the neck.

I also have Verizon DSL I have spent hours and hours on the phone with the tech people....speeds are suposed to 768 download and 128 upload they will tell download speeds of 500 are acceptable ... you will want to check all phone connections to make sure you have a good connection ( I took them ALL apart and cleaned them) 2nd if any of the filters are bad or overloaded the system will fail...1st test should be unplug EVERYTHING but the modem (all phones and devices) and then reset the modem and do a speed test...if this fixes check to see which filter or device is corrupting the modem...I had to run a heavier wire from the outside box to the modem directly (doorbell wire) I also used the windows registry tweek and that helped a bunch....If that doesn,t help they may need to replace the card at the main office, as these do go bad from time to time.....hope this helps.......T

try this: "ipconfig /flushdns" including the space, in a command prompt.
