I asked about setting up some CS action this Thursday in another thread. Prader Willi said it was good for him, so I was thinking 2/15 maybe sometime after 4 pm MST. Anyone else up for it?

Sounds good...I'll play if my ping is good...don't know it's really bad evenings toward night...guess I'm gonna have to give my ISP a hollar.:)

If no one beats me to it, I'll serve. If you get the chance, download the map bundle from www.atlantamaps.org. Download the "current maps" zip file and extract them to your Sierra\Halflife\Cstrike folder, not the maps folder... just the cstrike folder.

It's an 80 meg download, so if you're not on cable or DSL, use something like GetRight or another download resuming program and start this huge file at night before bed time! It's a great assortment of maps!!!

I won't be able to start my server til around 5:30 PM EST, so if anyone's interested, hope to see you all then!

Ok, I'm willing to give you guys some target practice.

I was on Tiretool's server last night-- from Ohio, ping ranged from 80 to 140.

Everyone use the PcM logo in front of your nick in the game Thursday so that I know you are from PC Mech. I'm going to allow around 16 players and I'm not going to password protect so that the server won't be empty like it has been the last few times. I've got the speed patch installed on my server so no lamerz will be able to come on with the speed patch. Should be a nice friendly game!

Now if we can just talk Xayd into doing the CS thang! I've played him in Unreal Tournament, so I know he's got skillz!

Tiretool, can you post name and/or IP address of your server or do you want to wait untill Thrus (dynamic IP)?

Floppyman

Hey tool,

You sure about 16 players? What's your cable rated at? 16 seems allright for a dual t1 server...:D but I dunno about cable...just don't want no one to lag (like me:))

As for the clan thing do you guys like

< PcM > (forget the spaces though) or [PcM] better?

Arrows don't show up on this BBS for some reason. I use the arrows though.

I also use the arrows. I guess they get confused for HTML tags or something when they are used in posts.

Hehe, if only I could convert you guys back to the REAL game of UT ;).

Been awhile since you guys played me, my skills are much improved, as noted by my top 25 team game rank...

http://ut.ngworldstats.com/fcgi-bin/Display?gt=UT&gm=team&uid=3199181&page=m&view=p

Hear the shock, fear the shock ;).

I've got a couple of co-workers playing CS, though, so I might have to pick it up and work with it a bit to give you guys a run for your money. They keep harassing me about how I only play UT, so I need to shut them up anyways. I'll go pick up CS sometime this week and learn the ropes.

You've played one FPS, you've played them all. The graphics are equally cool in CS though compared to UT, just in a different way. Alot of UT textures and lighting look cartoon-ish whereas in CS everything is made to look as realistic as possible. Hope you can make it!

I'm about to start my dedicated server. It will be on all night tonight if anyone wants to try out some of the maps from atlantamaps.org.

I'll password protect this game with the word "tiretool".

Having played UT exclusively for awhile, I found CS will take some getting used to. You can't move and dodge as quickly so it takes a little different strategy. Also, CS has many places to hide, take cover and to snipe from, so again, the strategy is different. Not a good idea to just start running down a hall or across an open area.

The more I play CS the better I like it.

Someday I'll have my system up and join in...waiting on replacement mobo for Abit BE6-II. Tiretool, did you get your defective board replaced...what's up with that Abit.
Also, Floppy, I'm on dialup...I get pings >300. I die a lot. What's your connection like?

Floppyman
02-14-2001, 01:41 PM
Hey Andy,

I can related:) My ping during the morning and day is usually pretty good....anywhere from the high 200's to low 300's. But at night it gets unplayable..it's usually over a 1000 then. I think the ping makes a lot of difference in CS as sometimes it seems I get fragged before I even get my shot off..or my shots don't hit the other person soon enough, so I die first. Sometimes when you use the sniper rifles and zoom in/out..it seems to take longer to zoom in out, which is to my disadavantage too, on my LAN it all plays much better for obvious reasons. How I wish I had broadband:)

AndyM, I still haven't received my replacement motherboard from ABIT. I went ahead and bought a new one with the intention of using the warranty replacement for another machine that I am soon to start... probably a Pentium III machine. I really hate that the warranty service has been so lacking, but the BE6 is such a dynamic board, it's hard to say "I'm not going to buy ABIT products any longer". I will say this though, if this board I just bought does the same thing the other board did, I will be bidding ABIT farewell and going with ASUS. I hear their boards are very stable for overclockers.

Best of luck with your board. You may need it!

I get that impression Prader, it seems to be a different game style.

People who sit in a spot and snipe are simply hated in UT, and it's easy enough to get at them. UT is more a game of movement skill than anything else. The guy who can strafe and dodge while hitting shots is the best player.

Same with Quake III I think, where sniping isn't an option...there it comes down to who can aim most accurately while dodging the other guys bullets. I somewhat like sniping in Counterstrike but "camping" as it is more commonly called can also make a game no fun. A good combination of some face to face and some sniping is good but not just sniping..that makes gameplay boring..you may as well play Project IGI then.

Tiretool,
My board didn't come today so must be tomorrow *please*. Do you mind if I e-mail you or post here for your input on overclocking? I'm new to it, would hate to screw up....again. Thanks either way.

Tool,

Can you run the regular CS 1.0 maps please? a) I don't have that package installed and b) not sure if everyone's got the atlanta maps package. Thanks.

Tiretool

Please excuse the brief pause in server presence, I just made a new mapcycle.txt so that the original maps are in place "only". Server's going back up at around 7:30 PM EST 15 February! Happy Fragging!

Tiretool
02-15-2001, 07:11 PM
AndyM, you can e-mail or post. Probably better to post so that everyone can lend a helping hand or so that those who know less than you or I can get help too!

AndyM

Kewl! I'll be barking as soon as I'm up. You guys have fun tonight.

Thanks for hosting Tiretool. It was a little slow with only a few players, but it was nice to actually game with some fellow PcM's. Floppyman, I feel for you and that 1000+ ping.

Floppyman
02-16-2001, 04:24 PM
Yep it was fun except the ping..but for a while it worked allright...ping was very inconsistent..at times real good and then real bad, sorry I had to leave just like that...had something going on I complete forgot about:)

Anybody up for CS tonight 2/16?

fade2black
02-16-2001, 07:20 PM
Sounds good to me. How do we want to set this up? Does sombody want to run a PcM server or do we want to join another dedicated server? I can try running a server if no one else wants to.

Floppyman
02-16-2001, 07:50 PM
Be cool if we could use a PcM server again....I have a list of other servers..but chances are that they will be full.....Tiretool do you wanna host again? We'll see if he replies...otherwise you could host too.

fade2black
02-16-2001, 07:54 PM
Sounds like a plan to me. I was just running a LAN game with 9 bots and my system seems to handle that easily. A game with real people will be a bit different though.

Floppyman
02-16-2001, 09:24 PM
Well ttool hasn't posted and my ping is not real good tonight (figures for a fri night:))...so..do we wanna set a date for next week where we can all meet again?

fade2black
02-16-2001, 09:28 PM
Sure. Maybe we should start a new thread to set this one up. Any day in the evening should be ok for me.

fade2black
02-16-2001, 09:30 PM
Well, I guess I will try and run a server for a little while, just for the heck of it. The IP is 192.168.1.100 default port if anyone is interested.

fade2black
02-18-2001, 05:38 AM
I did remember one very important thing about that IP address. It is not accessable outside of a LAN. :p Sorry, if anyone actually tried to find me.

hey, i'd like to play with some of you guys. do you guys play on any one particular server? if so, what is it?

Floppyman
02-19-2001, 05:22 PM
For now tiretool has mostly hosted. We can play on some other servers too if you guys want to.

fade2black
02-19-2001, 05:31 PM
As long as my ping is around 150 or less and pretty stable, I have no objections to any server. Would Thursday work well for you all?

troysvihl
02-19-2001, 05:54 PM
thursday sounds good. in the evening

Prader Willi

Thursday evening is the only time during the week I can play. Hope there is a game going.

Tiretool
02-19-2001, 07:13 PM
I'd be glad to host one Thursday. The IP will be 24.23.211.194 port 27015

Maybe you guys could get the maps from www.atlantamaps.org. There are some sweet maps there!
