I just purchased the Microsoft MN-500 router. Im trying to set it up using the software it came with, but when it trys to program it, it tells me that a software firewall or some other internet security is stopping it from being able to program it.. I do not have a firewall running, and no other internet security that I know of that would be stopping it. Anyone know what it might be? or what I can try?

have you ever had a firewall on the computer? Windows xp firewall maybe?
check out my thread on sync no surf. yours could be kinda related to a winsock problem
http://www.pcmech.com/forum/showthread.php?&threadid=88516
the best program i have found to fix winsock problems is
http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/WinsockXPFix.exe
keep in mind I just guessed at the possible cause due to lack of info, such as OS and weather or not you are pulling an IP from the router.
Were I work I do allot of my best work on best guess.
The XP ICF (firewall) is probably enabled on your local area connection. Turn it off.
You don't surf into a Microsoft router to program it - you have to use their software. One reason why we don't sell them.

The XP firewall is off and ICS is off. Besides the XP firewall, ive never had a firewall installed on the computer. Byte, ill check out ur thread and try that when i get home (and i did post my OS in the original post), and I am pulling an ip from the router, I can use the router and it seems to be working fine, but I wanted to be able to program it so i can use all the features it has. Would you suggest taking it back and getting a Liniksys?
If you can program it by surfing into it, give that a try. I don't know if that's possible.
If you are pulling an IP and can surf the net, your winsock is fine. Are you using a proxy server by any chance?
