Hey (sorry for the elaborate ambiguous title),
After getting NOD32 for my computer, I was constantly getting a freeze up just before shutting down. Now, this happened more frequently when I had TrendMicro PC-Cillin. Does anyone know what this is about? Or is more detail necessary?
Thanks,
kram

*bump*
My computer is about to run out on the NOD32 evaluation and I need to decide whether that is at fault or not. If you can offer any help, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Well, you could disconnect from any networks (logoff, unplug or disable any wired or wireless connections) and uninstall the NOD32 & see if the shutdown problems stop.
Not much of a support site for the program - they basically only offer a manual, FAQs, and e-mails to tech support. The "Knowledge Base" on their site is not a searchable database, but just a webpage title for a FAQs page and some Virus Definitions pages.
Shutdown issues and Windows 98 have a fair history: check in over at http://www.aumha.org and look at the Win98 shutdown pages. You'll notice the troubleshooters have several steps. You'll also see in there a shutdown patch that Microsoft issued a while back to deal with some of the problems. Check it out = since you've had this same issue before with a different AV program, you're going to need to check fairly extensively to identify the exact cause.
Best of luck

Check your NOD32 configuration for scanning floppies on shutdown and disable it if it exists - Norton used to do this by default and this used to cause shutdown issues.

Yes, the NOD32 has a floppy detection feature prior to its shut down. I'll see what happens when I turn it off.
Also, this problem actually started when I got TrendMicro's PC-Cillin. My computer was pretty fresh before getting that antivirus, now its pretty clogged up.
Thanks guys - I really really appreciate your helping me. I will hope that speak to you once I try some of your suggestions.
Thanks,

kram - I thought I'd post a link here for the manual removal instructions for TrendMicro's PCillin 2003 - you could take a look to see if all of it truly uninstalled or not. Incomplete uninstalls can cause trouble, and it can't hurt to look: http://kb.trendmicro.com/solutions/solutionDetail.asp?solutionID=15502
(If you had any other major installs/uninstalls just before the problem started you can check on those too - the well-known vendors tend to have either fairly detailed manual uninstall instructions, or an automated uninstall tool that often cleans more thoroughly than the Add/Remove Programs applet)
Just a thought.

[I like glc's idea about the floppy drive scan, too. My Norton clunks pretty hard on my floppy drives at both startup and shutdown. Somewhere I remember that ACPI and APM schemes were involved with the shutdown/floppy scan problem. . .]
