I recently installed IE 5.5 at work, running W98. For some reason, I can no longer view the source of any web page online, but I can view the source if I save and reopen from the HD.
Also, the Temporary Internet Files folder no longer functions. When I try to adjust the cache, it wants a number between 0 and 1. I cannot move the files to another location. I cannot view the files.
As a result, I'm assuming, the history is messed up as well.
I was alerted to the problem when I tried to view a page with an embedded quicktime movie, and it would not play. I tried looking at the source to determine its URL to see if I could open it directly from QT, which I could. So something seems really messed up. (I have it set up to play videos automatically.)
Here's what I've tried: uninstall, which sent me back to IE4, even though my last install was IE5. Then I tried reinstalling 5.5, but still had the same problem.
I don't have any problems using IE4, but I've been playing with XML, which of course requires IE5 or higher.
This is really weird.
