Hello! This is my first time posting. I have been searching the site for an answer to the problem that I have and found simmiliar problems but none of the solutions work with me. Sorry if it might seem repetitive. ;( Anyway I have a problem with basically all my video and sound media players. My computer refuses to play them and displays the following message:
WMPLAYER caused an invalid page fault in
module MSVCRT.DLL at 0187:780124b5.

Now I have been able to play my media for some reason on outdated programs of Windows and Real player but get the same illegal operation if I download the updated players. I have tried reinstalling but it seems to be a computer error and not a program one. Any help will be most apreciated.
:o And well just incase it might be related my Pest Patrol program starts up with an illegal operation although it works fine. The illegal operation is:
PESTPATROL caused an invalid page fault in

To see if it's related, uninstall Pest Patrol.

If you've got Win98, see if the Libraries Update helps
http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUFeatured/Libraries/Default.asp
This might help if it's file version trouble.
Other causes are listed in the MSKB article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;286180
I like to run antivirus scans just in case, since some can cause invalid page errors. You could do a free online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com
The Unacev2 file seems to be linked to compression - something an antivirus probably needs to scan, and media players need to play. Not sure if it's going to be in your libraries download. If it continues to give you trouble, try uninstalling ALL of your media players and running a Registry Cleaner [if you don't use MS Office 2000 or newer, you can use RegClean 4.1 over at download.com]. Then check for errors. Then reinstall your first choice media player & see if all is well.
Interesting - let's see how it comes out

Thank you so much for the reply! I was afraid no one else would. ;) I did a norton virus scan but came up with jack. I can't seem to be able to download housecall.... I have done the library thing deleted all media players ran regclean reinstalled winplayer. No dice.
I have Win 98. Is there a system scan you would like me to do or anything? ''

Here are a few pages you can look at: ---> see if you might notice something that provides a clue as to where the errors' solution might be:
UnAceV2 – licensing information and download link
http://www.winace.com/licence.html
Microsoft Visual C++ Run Time Libraries (msvcrt.dll)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;190536
Usually when I'm having trouble with C++ errors in a program, I look at that program's website & search for similiar errors that might have patches, or perhaps try either a more recent version or an older one. . . .
These errors are now appearing only when you try to run Winplayer, right? By Winplayer, are you referring to Windows Media Player? (whose executable is wmplayer, I think) There are a few viruses [one recent one from Dec. 2003] that masquerade as "winplayer.exe" [this is one reason for the HouseCall double-check] What error(s) happen when you try HouseCall? [if you are on regular phone-line modem dialup, it is very poky on the download --- it seems to stall for a near eternity at 95% - this is just a quirk of the download: it has usually already downloaded the necessary files, but is setting things up for the scan. If this describes your experience with them, try it again, giving it more time to get going. Or you can search for the Panda free online scan (which I haven't tried myself, but see it recommended from time to time)]
If the errors are always the same (in the same modules), and have happenned no matter what media player you're trying: it's possible that it's a Windows MultiMedia component that's missing or corrupted. You could try something like this (this is assuming you have drivers for your sound hardware handy):
1) In Safe Mode, go to the Control Panel, Add-Remove Programs, and remove your media players, and any sound-related software (from Creative, for example)
2) In Safe Mode, remove your Sound Devices
3) In Safe Mode, in Control Panel, visit Add-Remove Programs again, this time go to the Setup tab, and remove the checkmarks next to the Multimedia components in Setup. (this will uninstall them)
4) Power off & remove your sound card, or if onboard sound, temporarily disable the onboard sound in the Bios.
5) Reboot
6) Run RegClean
7) Reboot, enter Add-Remove Programs, go to the Setup tab again, and place checkmarks in the Multimedia options you find there. (you'll need either your Win98 CD or to point to the .cabs on your hard drive)
8) Shutdown, power off, put your sound card back in (or re-enable your onboard sound in the Bios)
9) Reinstall the sound drivers
10) Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information. . . and from the "Tools" menu, choose to repair IE
11) [deja vu] Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information. . . and from the "Tools" menu, choose the Direct X diagnostics. If any errors appear in the diagnostics, try downloading a fresh copy.
12) Visit Windows update and download what patches it considers critical.
(lucky)13) Reinstall a media player & test it.
. . . all this is to redo you multimedia environment. If this doesn't do it, you might be looking at something like an over-the-top reinstall, which is rather a SwissArmyKnife one-size-fits-all fix that has a chance of helping stubborn errors like this. Should it come to over-the-top time, here's a guide http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70846
. . . and if any other techs out there have seen this error before, jump right in!
