is anyone else having update issues with avg free edition? and downloading the program itself? it just will not update, and now it is having a hard time connecting to the server to download the program. is there anyway to go and download the updates through the website? thanks

you can download the latest updates here:

EDIT:
I've tried to download one of the files, and it's working.

thanks, any idea why the auto-update wouldn't be working?

I had trouble a few weeks ago, and read from others here that it was probably just very crowded due to the Virus Wars going on. Everyone was hitting the update site pretty hard. Dunno if that's why now tho... My last update went through easily.

Hmm, I had been having auto update problems as well. I assumed it was on my end because I had been working in my router again and it stopped on all my computers. but I just tried and it went though. I guess they where busy.

Finally got both of our PC's running XP updated last night. Both PC's then got a "AVG failed operation and needs to shut down" when attempting to run virus scan check.
I'm starting to think I need to invest in a paid virus check. Anyone using the paid or pro version of AVG? Is it working ok (updating and scanning)?
What are some other good virus scanning programs. I know about Nortons and the reported problems with 2004 version.

I've used PC-cillin on my XP computer for the past year with no difficulties. Their Internet Security package comes with a firewall as well.
The paid version of AVG is no better than the free version, and support is poor.
I'd go do Housecall scans to make sure you don't have something that's shutting AVG down, then uninstall/reinstall AVG.

I have the same problem with avg... If i try then at a later time it sometimes works but I rather just download them manually. I doubt its your AVG.

I also have had problems getting AVG to update on 2 home computers, and I know many others that are having the same problem, but I will stick with them, as I normally do not have problems, and they generally are very good. I also heard the problem is coming form so many trying to update because of the viruses/worms.:D
Add me to the list. Keep AVG as a second AV. PC-Cilin2002, which I paid for, stopped updating, so I've started using AVG. Got it updated-->Now Im having the same problem. Says I need to check my internet connection. There's nothing wrong with my internet connection.
Having various related problems (File Transfer no longer works) and wondering if, in my case, this Linksys WRT54G Router Firewall is "Adaptable" and turning into a Beast,.

I don't think it is the Linksys. I think it is overload at the AVG site. If you keep trying long enough...you should be able to get the update. At least that is what I have found:)
If you have to, you can get the update over the Web and drop in into the updates folder.

This is for US users.

It`s just certain times that you will have trouble,I think they are very busy lately. If you keep trying different times it will work, and at times I go to their updates page and download the proper update into the grisoft>avg>update folder. After downloading the update all you have to do to install it is launch avg like your going to run a scan and it will read the update and install it.
I don't know how much it applies, but Here's an added thought:
On AVG Control Center Update manager Tab> I UNchecked "User Confirms Dial-up Connection" when I went to cable internet. I've been having real problems getting AVG to update--Well, I just Checked that box again, and AVG Updated on its own immediately without any trouble.
So, if ur on Broadband--leave that "User confirms Dial-up Connection" CHECKED.
HTHs Somebody.
