exactly how effective is water cooling? or...i should ask, how effective is speding around $100 on a water cooling system?

My air-cooled system is running very hot...not dangerous, but more than i would like. i want to have a little bit of room for overclocking, but nothing extreme.

how hard or expensive would it be to fit these needs with water cooling?

what kind of air-cooling solution are you using? a good aftermarket cooler will suffice for moderate to high overclocking depending on what you get.

well, i started off with 2 case fans...one in the back blowing out and one side fan blowing in. BUT, the back one sucked and stopped working after a few days and everything was still okay...but recently one of the wires got pulled out of the side fan, so it doesn't work either

i'm sure replacing these two fans would help...but i've been thinking about just goign with water-cooling instead altogether. it's getting to be summer time and my computer room is horribly insulated so i'll already be starting with hot air....plus...water cooling is something new that'd i'd like to try

i'm just kind of worried about the complexity of attatching the heatsink to the vpu and stuff..

good air-cooling would be cheaper and just as effective. im on air and have my chip running 892MHz above stock speed with the voltage cranked. go to www.svc.com and look for the thermalright SLK-900A and pair it with a good 92mm fan and youll have plenty of cool air for your processor.

i dunno...i'm sure air would be fine, but i kind of want to try water cooling...

i'm kind of nervous about removing the vpu heatsink and using a new one...

I don't have any experience watercooling, but I'd suggest to others that since macrymble has decided he wants to try it, to not try to convince him to use aircooling. Anyone have any tips on WATERcooling?

watercooling is very effective. but a $50 air-cooled solution is much more effective than a $100 water system. $100 on a water setup is skimping on it and you will get low quality parts with $100. the kits for water setups are junk, its best to build your own, and most times cheaper as well. for a good effective water setup, youre looking at spending around $150-$200.

hehe...yeah, i might stick with aircooling, but i'd have to spend a bit replacing some fans and i'd probably go with a new cpu heatsink...but i'd like to know a few things about water cooling before deciding one way or the other...

most water cooling kits and such that i have seen are only intended for the cpu, but i'd like to cool my video card, too....should i just buy the separate water cooling parts and make my own thing or should i try to find a kit that indludes video cooling capabilites?

I apologize for assuming you were set on it. If you are not, I would definitely agree with Tin Canary and say that aircooling is the most effective solution in terms of price/performance ratio. Other cooling solutions have always been a novelty, but until they can match aircooling in terms of ease of use and price, they won't be adoptable as a mainstream solution.

As a side note, I remember when Alpha came out with what they thought would be the fastest desktop system (at the time). It was something like 757 MHz, and had some sort of liquid condensation/evaporation refrigeration cooling unit. Needless to say, it didn't last long.

no, no...i didn't think you were assuming i was set on it...i just thought it was funny..
