Ok, here we go. This has become a HUGE problem and I really hope I get a response. Previous posts of this have yet to have had a response:( Anyways, here it goes.

Ok, first of all. The problem starts with the normal Windows XP Check-Disk feature that occurs in the beginning of the boot-up, after turning your computer off incorrectly. You know how it tries to check for "consistency"....
Well the first error I get is "the pagefile.sys entry is a nonvalid link", then it says "the pagefile.sys is a nonvalid file size" <-or something close to that. Thats basically the first problem. BUT, there is still another problem that pops up RIGHT after it tells me those 2 things. Then, while still in the check disk feature, it starts saying \recycled\dc41.p2f is cross-linked.....and it will go all the way up to \recycled\dc418.p2f and will lock up, and not continue the check. So basically the check disk is 100% non-functional and the only way I can start Windows is by bypassing the check disk, which isn't recommended. I've actually had the check-disk go all the way up to like...\recycled\dc804.sum one time.....the 3 file extensions that show up under this \recycled\dc... are .sum, .p2f, and .age. The first time this ever happend was when I uninstalled Myst: Uru. RIGHT when it was at like 100% uninstalling, I got the blue screen of death which if I recall correctly, said something about NON_PAGE_FAULT_IN_AREA or something like that...cant really remember. And when I look at some of the file extensions of the check-disk garbage, it seems like they MIGHT be all from the game Myst:Uru. Myst:Uru had "ages" in it which I thought a recycled\dc428.age might be. Anyways, I need to figure out what these are because it resorts to my even more annoying problem which is my 2nd and only other problem. Well.....even know check disk is telling me theres tons of these files in the "\recycled\"...there is NO files at all in the recycling bin. By the way, I didn't have any virus software when this occured. So, I bought McAfee VirusScan Online. When I did the scan, only small low-risk trojans, and adwares were found. BUT, when it was doing the scan, I WITNESSED it scanning the recycling bin's contents, AND IT WENT THROUGH ALL OF THOSE CRAZY "dc" files which I cant seem to find anywhere on my harddrive. So it actually prooves that there are hundreds of files in the recycling bin, but are pretty arbitrary to me!!! I cant see anything in the recycling bin. And let me go ahead and say the recycling bin "looks" full, but indeed it isn't. There is nothing in there when I open it even though it looks full. Well, thats most of it folks.

I would crazily appreciate it if somebody could help me out here.
THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE

Sincerely,
Jay Savin :)

Enable show hidden files in your folder options and then look in the recycle bin.

Already did that....I've done all the "obvious" actions....

Erratic behaivor of this sort can be the result of a replicating virus or corrupt Windows files. I think I would first try to reinstall Windows and select the "Repair" option. This is the least destructive of installs. If problems persist, do a complete or "new" install. If that does not work, you may want to consider reformating your hard drive.

Like I said before, I have McAfee installed and it found nothing but small trojans and ad-ware, which i ridded of. Thanks for some legitimate feedback. Thats what my last resort was going to be. But the thing that sucks is, my windows xp is back with its rightful owner. It was a corporate copy, so I had it installed on mine as well. I definately don't want to spend 400 dollars on a new one, lol.

That just might have ruled out what I was gonna suggest next - delete the recycle bin with the console and let it recreate - and run chkdsk with the console. If you happened to install the console on the hard drive you do have this option.

I'm sorry, but could you explain to me in full-detail how to do that action?

I have WinXp Home

I'm running fat32. I have 1 HD with 6 partitions.

There were 28 items in the recycle bin that were incorrectly crosslinked. No matter what I did, the recycle bin always indicated there were 28 items to delete. If I deleted another item, it would show 29 items. After the "empty" was done, it still showed full and still would indicated there were 28 items to delete...even though I couldn't see them.

The recycle bin where the fix had to take place was on my 2nd partition ( D: drive) even though the problem existed on all my drives recycle bin.( I only found that out through "CMD" and stripping the attributes from the recycled directories, 1 directory at a time)

If you are still with me....

The fix I did was, to go into command prompt
(Start\Run - type in " cmd " (no quotes) )
Get to the drive with the bad recycle bin
(just type the drive letter i.e. D: at the prompt and hit enter)
I then had to strip the attributes from the recycled directory.
(at the command prompt just type: attrib -s -h recycled)
then run chkdsk with the fix parameter
(chkdsk/f)

at this point, (in my case) it may tell you the drive is locked, do you want to force a dismount ?
I answered yes...then chkdsk linked\combines the files into a couple of large files. I was then able to erase them from the recycled directory in dos.

If you answer "no", it will ask if you want this to run the next time the system is restarted. When I answered yes, chkdsk never ran on a reboot\restart. That's why I ended up doing the dismount.

The "C" drive doesn't allow a dismount option, so i'm not sure how you might be able to do this with 1 partition, or in NTFS.

Is it possible might be able to get away with it in true DOS by using a Windows boot disk ?....

good luck

thanks anyways...my computer is totally broken now. i took advice from someone...they said to try it with 1 ram module at a time.....try the checkdisk that is....and when i tried it, it did the same thing still....so i put the ram back in..there were 3 modules....but i put them back in, in a different order, which there is nothing wrong with that..... and when i powered my pc on, i saw smoke coming out of it, and smelled bad, and now its gone...wont even power on...i aws so pissed....it costed 3500 dollars 3 and a halfyears ago...it was a handmade alienware

any advice on why it wont even power on now????

..by the way, i cant find any burn marks anywhere exept on one of the ram modules which i took out

to make things perfectly clear, you didn't take the ram out or put it back in while it was powered on did you? it is possible you forced the ram into the slot or damaged it or the motherboard while taking it out or putting it in.

That can also happen if you don't physically unplug the computer from the wall socket - ATX boards have 5 volts DC on them at all times, even if the computer is off. It's also possible to flex the board reinserting ram modules if you push too hard, breaking traces.

Well, you definitely have to replace that burned memory, and very likely the motherboard.
