I have used aol for some time now and always wondered if it was a true browser by itself or is it really using parts of internet explorer built into the os?just wondered if anyone knew for sure. Thanks mike

Like you I have been using AOL for a while and as far as I can see it does use Internet Explorer with just the unhelpful AOL bits added on.

There are probably a lot of people with more info on these forums than me though. I would also be interested in more info about this whole AOhell thing ;o)

I suppose I should say helpful bits of AOL added as you cannot connect without AOL's version of the browser to AOL.

It's IE in an AOL shell. You don't have to use it - you can use any browser once you are connected.

It's IE, with one very weak link, the AOL network adapter, which is the binding between the two. It has javascript problems out the wazoo, so be warned. If you get script errors on sites, you need to use a browser outside of AOL.

AOL has never addressed this issue, probably because they'd rather you look at keyword ads instead of other sites...

Thanks for the answer, atleast now I know whats going on,and yes I have minimized and run IE in the past and it works, but now it looks like I was doing mostly the same as if running aol.
