I recently found a media file on my computer that I couldn'y delete. I believe it was a video file though I'm not sure.
I couldn't delete it saying it was in use or wrtie protected, know this could be the introducer of a virus/trojan, I booted in Safe Mode and got it out.

A few days later, three strange things happeed.

First, my unzip program, the on that comes with xp, stopped working and said every .zip file was corrupt. But this was fixed after a few reboots. Im cofident this was just a weird conincidence.

Next, My windows startup screen, (the one where you see your name to open your desktop) dissapeared. I've tried changing the settings that say, Use Startup Screen, but I can't. I am only able to use the box where you type in your name.

Finally, my bluetooth mouse stopped working. In mid-process, it just stopped moving. Nothing. I reinstalled software and 10000000 batteries. It will not det4ect it for the life of me. I know these are probably just coincidences, but I'm paranoid aboutthis computer.

New BLue Case Dell XPS all tricked out and very very expesive and loaded with everything.

I was wondering if these were possibly symtoms of a virus, and if anyone could help me with this. Norton picks up nothing, but then again, once stuff gets in registry he's basically useless....

Thanks and hope you can help.

is norton up to date?
scan with some of these:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/Msie/index.php#
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

Also get spyware scanners:
www.safer-networking.org
www.lavasoftusa.com

If there is any malware on your computer after those all those it wont stand a chance.

Norton is up to date and I know its not spyware.

I'm almost wondering if this is in wrong area. If it is a virus, it's not being detected and no other symptoms are present.

If someone could help me with the startup screen problem and the mouse and they didn't reoccur, I think it would have just been some weird coincidences.

personally, if it was my pc I would be concerned cause it might not be a coincidence. I would go to trendmicro and do the housecall scan. I would then find a trojanscanner and run it. If you like free trials and who don't trojanhunter (http://www.misec.net/trojanhunter/) is pretty good.
If you have a firewall like zone alarm have you had anything new connect to the net?
also a scan with f-prot would eliminate anything loading up while windows loads because it runs in dos. instructions (http://crowleys.crsc.k12.ar.us/documents/fprot.htm) it works but you will need one more disk than it says.

if possible don't use that computer too much because it sounds like you are losing data/files. Things are slowly deteriorating. I would be concerned.
