aol anywhere

hey everyone,

for the most part, people at my work are unable to sign into aol anywhere. i don't have a problem signing in anyplace else on the internet, but aol. actually, i should correct that... they can sign into aol, but not access e-mail. the "this page cannot be displayed" error appears on the screen everytime. i looked at aol's site to see if there is somekind of firewall setting that needs changed or something, but didn't find anything.

personally, i don't have a problem signing into aol. i say good riddance, but all upper managment here uses it, so i need to find out why it's not working. for all i know, it has never been working but nobody brought it to my attention. any info will be helpful. thanks.

Administrator has blocked the mail portion of AOL. probably to stop the Viruses people can introduce to the Company LAN when checking and opening home email.

i am the admin, and i don't remember setting up any blocks of anykind... where would i be able to find this?

Take a look at the AOL Postmasters Info site (http://postmaster.aol.com/)

It's their support site for people like us.

Their approach to protecting their precious users from spam tend to result in a lot of IP's ending up on their spam list, blackballed. I suspect they maintain a database of MAC addresses too, which might explain why not all your users are having this problem. (Or, perhaps, they're all having the problem but only some have bothered to mention it to you.)

I haven't dealt with them directly yet, but from what I hear you can expect to spend some time on hold when you call, and it's a crap shoot whether you'll get a helpful and knowledgeable support person when they do pick up. Since our organization isn't using AOL or AIM for official business, it's low on my priorities and I haven't even started reading their troubleshooting guide. In your case, I bet this will bring you to resolution.
