A strange problem I have with IE6. When I open my browser to go online (I have DSL) IE takes awhile to 'load' almost like it hangs up for about 8-10 seconds then comes up, but page looks 'half finished', if I refresh, works in 1 second and looks normal. Also, every once in awhile, when browsing, I go to my normally visited site and get the 'page cannot be found error' and have to click on it 2 or 3 times to get it to come up ( I am sure that is is not the website fault, as it happens randomly, and not like the website is down. This Happens every time, but only the first time that I open it, afterwards it seems to run OK. If I close it out, and return a few minutes later, same thing happens. To give some background on this, I am using the same DSL modem/service as the computer I replaced with this one, that 'puter had win 98 and IE6. I now have XP and IE6. This problem did not happen ever on the old 'puter. And, of course, Win XP does not have the IE repair option like the old 98 did. I have done the spybot/adware/hijackthis/nortonscan/spywareblaster/Zonealarm/ DSLReports things, and no avail there. I have sufficient memory (512 vs 256 on the old '98 puter) so I know its not that, but is driving me crazy! Is there some kind of settings or something that may cause this? I have all of Microshafts latest patches and such, and current drivers installed. Sorry for the long post but want to get out all the info I can to help on this. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Router or standalone? If standalone, native XP PPPoE or 3rd party connection software?

Standalone, and native XP PPPoE.

If you are running Zone Alarm, turn the XP firewall off. Multiple firewalls can fight each other.

Yes, the XP firewall was shut down before I installed the Zone Alarm.
