I have a Compaq Proliant 4500 with a Compaq QVision 1024/E graphics adapter that only provides 256 color. I would like to be able to get a graphics card that can support 32-bit true color? Any suggestions on a good card? I believe the slots will support EISA and ISA, which is what I was told?

I was also interested in setting up dual monitors, but was cautioned that running Win2000 Server might not support the dual monitor with two graphics cards? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

If it's only ISA and EISA, you are going to have a big problem finding graphics cards with more than the 1 meg video ram that you have now. That thing you have is a server, not a graphics workstation........

Yes, I know it's not meant to be a graphics workstation. I already have a workstation setup where I do all my graphic work. I was just interested in suggestions on a ISA or EISA graphics adapter that would support 32-bit true color. If there is one? From your post, I gather that I might not have any luck finding one that will support 32-bit true color?

I am curious if there is a way to use another driver that will enable 32-bit color depth with the same card that I currently have?

Thanks,

It may support 32 bit if you drop it down to 640x480 resolution, the math just works out.

640*480*32 = just under 1 meg.

This assumes that the driver you have supports 32 bit, you may have to settle for 24 bit, this used to be called "true color".

I see a 2 meg card there, that's a decent old chipset. Win2K should have a native driver for it, but it may only go to 24 bit. This should go to 1024x768 at 24 bit, plenty good for most purposes. If it does go to 32 bit, it will be limited to 800x600.
