I am planning a clean install of XP before too long. One question I have is will my older software work correctly with XP? Specifically I want to be able to use Word 97, Norton Antivirus 4.0, and Money 99
I don't know that much about XP, and how it reacts to older software....

I use Word 97 with XP and it works just fine. Certain programs might not work though unless you run it in compatibility mode for windows 98 or me.

Norton Antivirus 4.0 will certainly not work because it is too old. Not to mention, Symantec will not support it anymore. Just get a new oem copy of NAV2004, it shouldn't be more than a few dollars.
Windows Programs will run fine under XP with the exception of old burning programs, anti virus software and some more.
Word 97 runs fine, I run it too under XP. Dunno about Money but it should run fine.
As said, NAV 4 won't. But you don't need to buy a new anti virus software, there's excellent freeware around, like AntiVir (http://www.free-av.com)

I got a Windows Experience the excitement CD. And it had a program that wouls scan my system and tell me the things you are asking. I ran it, and the only problem that it alerted me to was MS Money 2001. There would be a conflict, but it told me that I should be ok if I just reinstalled it after XP was loaded. But, I would update everything. I am going to MS money 2004 or till I get Xp loaded 2005 should be out...LOL
Good luck with your upgrade.
Don't put Norton 2004 on, if you want Norton, use 2003, you can get it online now for 10 bucks with a year subscription.

I don't plan on using Norton 2004. I got Norton System Works 2003 on the CD that came with my new MB, and am going to use that. I have been hearing alot about the problems with Norton 2004 here from you glc and the other members, and that is the basis for not using the 2004 version.
I have been learning much here in the short time I have been a member. And would llike to thank everyone who posts here for all the info they provide.
