Hi all,

I received an email from paypal today (supposedly) asking me to verify my information since they were in the process of upgrading their servers. It looked very legit. I clicked on the link and it tried to connect to a 210.x.x.x/img/ address, but it couldn't connect. Only after this I realized that I had actually gotten this email to the wrong account--i.e. I'm registered with another email with paypal. I'm thinking nothing happened since it didn't connect to that IP, but does anyone have any idea what this might have been? There was no attachment to the email either. Any ideas? TIA.

Do you or anyone else know what the scam exactly is or does? Is it just a credit card scam, does it carry or try to download a virus/trojan? Thanks again.

I've also been getting that paypal scam in my spam email address, it goes straight to my junk mail folder. I have no idea what it does, but I'm sure it's up to no good. No legit company will send you a email to "verify" your account by clicking on their link that they provide in the email, I'm 99% sure it goes to a different location (other than Paypal).

You've been phished and some of them do implant trojans.
Just to be safe a trip to trendmicro.com is in order.

Well, I ran AVG with the latest definitions afterwards and it didn't come up with anything-- AVG is usually pretty good at finding trojans. Since the link was dead I don't think I have to worry too much, but I might still do a housecall scan just be safe. Thanks again.
