I have a copy of WIN XP home edition I got from fry's electronics when I bought my PC. I was able to install Win XP fine. But how do I install the service pack, right on the case I got the CD in it says 'includes service pack 1a'. Has it already been installed and I don't know it.

When I run the CD I don't see an option to install the service pack. When I explore the CD I see the files for a service pack but not a way to install them.

Help?

When it says "SP1 included", that means that all the updates that made up Service Pack 1 are already built into that edition of XP. Nothing else to install. There will be additional updates available from Windows Update, but they are in addition to SP1.

That's it. The pre-service-pack-1 files of the original Windows XP don't exist anymore on your Windows XP CD. The CD already contains the newest ones, so there is no service pack 1 to install afterwards.

If you rightclick on "My Computer" you'll see that your Version already includes the SP1.
