Hi,
I am running windows xp home with IE 6. I am not sure what I did, but now if I have IE open and click on a link in it, when a new browser opens up for the link, it is a smaller browser and I have to click the square in the upper right corner to fully open it. It has opened fully in the past and I don't know what happened. Thanks.
Rob
For reasons known only to Microsoft programmers, IE remembers the size of the last secondary window closed and uses that for all future secondary windows...so long as you don't resize it using the Maximize button.
At some time in the recent past, the last IE window you closed was a smaller secondary window. IE will remember that forever until you follow the steps below.
1. Open IE, go to a page with links
2. Open a link in a new window
3. Grab the corners/edges of the secondary window and drag it to the size and placement you want, do not use the maximize button
4. Close the original window - important step, don't overlook it!
5. Close the window you just resized
All future IE secondary windows will open using the size and placement of the window you closed in step 5.

I tried your suggestion. When I open the second window it opens to the size that I resized it to like you said, but according to the box in the upper right it still isn't maximized. I can't believe (yes I can, it's MS) that there is no way to restore the second browser to open maximized. Thanks for your help.

You might want to try Mozilla Firefox, a good alternative to IE. I don't believe it has the same problem.
Correct. You can never maximize it, only stretch it so it has the same effect as maximized.

Thanks for your responses. I will stretch it as much as I can.
