WMP can't find codecs.............

I've downloaded seceral video files, some of them play while the others say error downloading codec and then plays the audio but not the video. Is there a way to find the codec? The media player has downloaded the ones it could, or are them files just basically lost files and should be deleted?

Download GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/), it will tell you what codec the video uses.
