PSU/Lighting help

i was wounderin if any one can tell me what sort of stuff you can fun off a 300watt PSU. at the mo i have a:

mobo (RAM, heatsink, 1 fan,)
cd/rw/dvd
cd rom
3 case fans
graphics card
2 cold cathode lights

most common things you normally on a computer

and i wanted to add a few more lights to the PSU but place them in other places!

i have already had a power warning from my graphics card but thats only form the way its set up!

but any way just wanted to no if its better to get seperate/another PSU to run it on

What type of power supply do you have. If you have a generic supply you might want to have more than 300 Watt PSU, if you have a quality 300 Watt PSU you should be fine. Case fans and led's don't take much power to run. If you had another hard drive that would be a much bigger problem. If I am not mistaken the Ultra FX5200 needs its own power, my FX 5200 runs from the mobo.

My advice is if that it is a genric 300 Watt PSU, rip it out of the case and get yourself at nice 350 Watt PSU (See post on good versus bad brand names for PSU) If you have a 300 Watt Enlight, Antec, Sparkle you should be fine. With very few exceptions, if your PSU ends with "max", through it out. The link for that discussion is here

im not sure what sort of PSU i have! it came with the case, but b4 my fx5200 get power it goes through all my lights/fans but i need to switch it around!

i did realise on my old case that it is a 350watt PSU would it be better to switch them around? would it just be a simple switch?

If you don't have an enlight or antec case you better get a new power supply. I wouldn't trust a power supply from a few years ago, especially since that is also generic. People in these forums will tell you that a power supply is an essential part of you computer, and generic won't cut it. Wait for more posts, but I believe that people will say dump the generic PSU.

i wasent really planning on geting a new PSU the ones u have suit me well! the only thing i would really do is switch the PSU's over so that my main system has a 350watt instead of a 300watt
