Compared to, say Kingston Value Ram for example, is premium DDR memory such as Kingston HyperX or Corsair XMS or ...?... worth the additional cost if the system is not being OC'd and if so, what are the advantages other than for OC'ing? The Mobo involved would be some kind of i875P-chipset-based unit with a 3.0 or 3.2 Northwoods CPU?

if overclocking, I would say no, as long as the ram has good timings (<2.5 CAS) and it's not just "rebadged" PC2700 or whatever, meaning it's running as PC3200, but only because it's oc'd....the only way to tell would be to see the ns rating on the chips
**edit** bad wording, if not overclocking, the value RAM should be fine is how I meant that

yep, i agree. unless you plan on OC'ing, value ram should be fine - as long as its from a quality brand (Kingston, Corsair, OCZ, Crucial, etc)
