Hi,

I am in the middle of installing a Home ethernet network for the potupose of sharing my internet connection.

I have a spare computer, and people have said that I can use it as A Lan server. What is this, and are there any advantages of having this?

It is running Windows 2000 Pro, and has a Intel celeron 700Mhz, with 512 of mem. So Is this any use?

Any Ideas Appriciated

Sam

I would not recommend that you do it that way, it would be much simpler to just connect a router to the modem and connect the computers to it, most of the new routers come with a built in switch with at least 4 ports for the computers to connect to.

to use the old computer would do the same thing but would be more dificult to set up and take up a lot of space too

I wasn't going to use it for the net, as My router does come with a switch.

Are there any other uses that I can use it for? Like a Back Up PC?

I have the space so that isn't a problem.
