I have an old Compaq Presario 5050 desktop PC that used to have 98 on it, now the HD is whiped out...
I am trying to put windows 2000 on it, but I can't boot from a CD, and I can't find a BIOS download for the board...
What do I do now???

Any chance you can get a 2k boot disk?

You can download the 4-floppy install set for 2000 from bootdisk (http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm). You need to download the makeboot program also (DOS or 32-bit windows varieties available).
There's an excellent technical newsletter you can subscribe to - see the BootLIST link.
You can make the 4 bootdisks with the 2K cd - search it for MAKEBT32.EXE.
Before you put 2K on an old proprietary box like that, you need to make sure it meets requirements and you can get drivers. Anything less than 128mb of ram is gonna be painful and 256mb is better. Minimum realistic hard drive size is 4gb and that won't leave much room for a lot of programs. If the processor is 200+ MHz you should be OK.
