I'm not sure this is the right place to post but here goes:

I just upgraded my machine with a new motherboard a MSI - KM4M-L, new cpu, memory and HD.

My problem is I run Win 98. When I try to use the CD provided by MSI I get a message saying Win 98 isn't supported and it won't run the setup program.

It says Win 98 SE is ok but that would mean buying it.

Is there anyway around this? I've tried browsing the disk but there are too many files to know which I need to install.

If it's that problematic, get WXP in an OEM addition.

Thats the point of my thread really. I don't want to purchase XP, whether it be OEM, upgrade or full version.

You have hit a dead end - you have to upgrade to something. The KM400 chipset requires 98SE or better, there is no workaround.

I've been browsing abit and the windows website says you can upgrade some stuff using the update facility.

Is it possible to download an upgrade from their site to bring my version up to date? It says something about a service pack but it isn't overly clear whether this means SE because it says something about existing SE users not needing to download.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

No, there is nothing that's downloadable to update 98FE completely to 98SE. There used to be a low cost upgrade CD from Microsoft, but I haven't seen one of those for years. You will probably have to look on Ebay.

Thanks again. These forums never fail to come through for me.

Cheers all.
