So will the rest of your rig.
This is one of those times when I'm glad I was a lil late getting into gaming, I have never played HL and by the way it's going I'm not gonna mess with HL2.

Face it guys. It's not going to come out. This has to be some kind of scheme to keep Valve's name in the spotlight. Last I heard it had been pushed back to this June. Halo 2 will be out before it is and nobody will care about Half Life anymore. (Yeah right).

Not a good thing to be in the spolight as the companey that cant release a game. It will make people think twice about pre-ordering a game from them.

When it finally comes out, then I will begin to get excited. Right now, it's just like any other game being developed.

This reminds me of brute force, it got so delayed that i got it a year after i preordered! Makes me think twice about ever preordering again. Except Halo 2 i should probably preorder that soon, i know lots of people have already.

You're funny colecifer...
You say you never wanna pre-order again yet you want to pre-order Halo2. Then you'll pre-order HL2, then Duke Nukem Forever, then... and the list goes on. You're funny.

Not another delay. I'm getting, really, really, really sick of hearing that term combined with HL2

Here is what Halflife2.net had to say about Gabe Newell’s quote from the 2003 interview with Polygon magazine:
There have been a lot of rumours and assumptions produced at other sites (or should we say tabloids?) about Half-Life 2 being delayed until 2005. This isn’t the case at all; people are simply getting confused by a hypothetical comment from Gabe Newell.
The comment was a reply to a question about Valve’s reasons for the delay back in September 2003. It’s purely hypothetical and there’s no reason to think Valve will be delaying the game until 2005 or putting $20 million more into it.

According to HardOCP, this was from an interview from last year.
UPDATE: More than a few of you have noted that this was taken from an interview last year that is just now coming out. I think the statements most likely still stand though.
[edit]: And from halflife2.net :

The game will be released this year so sit back, relax and keep checking Halflife2.net for real information about Half-Life 2. There isn’t long to wait now.
This is Gabe Newell’s quote from an interview with Polygon magazine:
"We've already spent millions into this project, and we're willing to spend as much as we need to make this the best first person experience ever. If that means delaying the game to 2005, we'll do it without any hesitation. If it means sinking another $20 million into the project, we can do it. Rest assured, if we delay the game, it'll be only to blow your socks off even more when it finally releases."

Vaporware, maybe taking the crown from Duke Nukem Forever :D
All the better to avoid graphics cards giving free coupons with the game.

With all the new games coming out that have updated graphics engines and better physics engines, has anyone seen or played a game with improved gameplay? And, I mean something revolutionary. I haven't and I've played most of the new games out.

From Amazon:
Availability: This item will be released on December 31, 1969. You may order it now and we will ship it to you when it arrives.
LoL.
Werewolfdaddy,
I haven't seen any new gameplay. It all seems to have been done before. That's why I try not to get excited about every new game. I don't expect anything awesome anymore. Just new and exciting.

I do enjoy UT2004, Battlefield:Vietnam and Call of Duty, though.
I don't know why people are still waiting for HL2 and Far Cry is out there, the game is awesome, great graphics, gameplay, and atmosphere, it would be really hard for HL2 (if ever released) to beat it.

Do you think it was the game being stolen from valve that slowed it down?
tomster2300
04-21-2004, 05:49 PM
Wouldn't it be funny if the game were released a couple of years from now and barely ran on the video card they were giving the free game tickets with? That would be hilarious. :) You crazy Radeon people.

that steal seemed a little to conveinent. And to just change the code a little wouldn't take this long.

Games always take time to build and to make them run efficiently. Anytime you hear a big name game being produced I never believe their release date. HL2 and D3 as examples.

i no that games take time to make them... but usally they have made some portian of the game b4 they advertise it... on most games anyways....

Doom 3 has gone far beyond any realistic building period. It has to have been discontinued due to some reason reason not being let known to the general public. They're probably just letting the game sink slowly into oblivion.
DragonNOA1

That's a lot of time and money to just let sink into oblivion.

Another thing to take into consideration is the possibility that these games will not play well on the current generation of video cards. The game designers could well be waiting on the graphics cards to catch up with their games. Ofcourse, I'm probably wrong.
James.M
04-22-2004, 01:53 PM
i actually think that the graphics dont look too demanding and that all cards above the 9600 will play the game

So you're saying Doom 3 will make some kind of surprise comeback? There have been games which have taken this long to create, but they at least showed some proof of their existence and the game's progress. I am doubting that Doom is coming back anytime soon. I could be wrong though of course.

The only reason I want HL2 and D3 to release is so others can start using their engines. I think they are trying too hard to perfect these games. Someone else will eventually put their engines to better use any ways, so just get it done already.
I almost hope a sleeper company comes out of nowhere and puts the new HL2 and D3 engines to shame! That would make me feel good inside, heh.

What kind of engine is Far Cry running on? It's supposedly taking advantage of some next generation graphics.

Crytek developed their own engine for Farcry. I love it but I dont think they optimized Farcry very well. I hope its the game and not the engine, anyways.
