Run away with the kid(s) for a day and send her for a manicure/pedicure/facial, or you could go the dangerous route and buy her a new vacuum or garbage disposal.

more likely jumping up and down with joy screaming: "I'm free, I'm free".
Seriously, the pedicure/day spa thing is a good thing....my want to hook up with her best friend's husband and plan it together so the 2 can go and do what ever it is that women do together.

This depends on getting a weekend sitter.
Check out all the romantic/gourmet/spectacular scenery get-away places with in about 2 hours drive.
I'm sure there are a few nice country inns with special weekend rates, especially over the Mother's Day weekend.
edit :Leave Friday night and come back late on Sunday.
The kids can give her their presents on Friday evening before you two leave.

Ever thought outside the square, like a balloon ride over your home or something
Cheap, and easy to organise
Not sure if they'll be booked out though

I'm going to through my vauge 2c in.
In terms of girlfriends/wives/fiancees, suprises have always worked for me.
Plan something small and sweet with her (dinner date) and suprise her with something big and sweet (hotel reservations, grandparents are picking up the kids for the night, don't worry about it, etc)

For starters, if she works in an office have flowers delivered there. Women love to get them so the others can see them delivered. What you do after that is your choice. I once tried giving a new fishing pole and case of beer but ended up with them both for myself.

Thanks for all the ideas!!
I like the Day Spa option, mbossman2 - I'll be looking into that; I'm sure she'd love it.
