Installing a new Matrox G200 video card and the monitor blacks out after the Windows "Welcome" screen pops up. I can put any other video card in there and I won't have this problem. The Matrox card actually worked when I first put it in, but then the screen went black while tweaking monitor drivers (and probably deleting stuff too) ...Any ideas?

Thanks!

Might as well list your system specs.

My specs:

HP Pavillion 6735
Windows Me
Intel Celeron 633 Mhz
Video controller 810L (on MOBO)
Intel (r) 82810 Graphics Controller 4.12.01.2576
192 MB RAM

(Pathetic system, but I'm not buying a new one until absolutely necessary!)

Want to install a Matrox G200 MMS card

THanks.

If you kept notes on what you were tweaking you can backtrack and find out what happened.
Since other video cards work it can't be anything too dire.
You should also try the card in another comp to be sure it's not the hardware ( I doubt that ).
My guess is that you've set the resolution/refresh rate incorrectly.
Try loading in safe mode and see what happens.

I was just looking at your specs for the new computer you want to build :

Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
3 x 512 MB PNY PC2700 DDR RAM
Sapphire ATi Radeon 9800 Pro
Future 3DMark2001=?

The XP 3200+ takes 3200 ram.
I'm guessing the 2700 is a typo ?

Ah crap, it's not a typo! That makes me mad. Well what's the highest processor I can get that uses PC 2700 RAM. Please tell me I can at least get AMD Athlon XP 3000+!

Mwave has the processor you need : http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=BA03473

A 3000+ Barton with the proper fsb for the ram you have.

Okay, I booted into safe mode (by clicking run-> msconfig-> advanced which I found on howstuffworks which I found on google), put the card in, ran the installation disk, deleted a bunch of drivers when I got screen freezes, and now everything works great!

Thanks all!

its really as simple as removing the old drivers and software before installing the new card, then when booting up with the new card you can then install the new drivers and soft ware.
