Just got Far Cry for the PC, need to upgrade my video card for graphics. What's the best ATI card around for under $200?

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 - no doubt about that. Find one at your local CompUSA store - they're on sale with rebates and down to 199.99 USD without tax.

Hope that helps,

If you get another 10$ you can get this 9800 pro from newegg, http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-268&depa=1
Edit: Just saw that your in new Jersey, you would have to pay tax if you bought the card from newegg.

What would be the next best card, if I have to go a little lower in cost?

The 9700 Pro, not sure on how much it costs though.

If you can find a 9700 Pro it will be about the same price as the 9800Pro and the next step down is the 9600XT which is a pretty good step down in performance compared to the 9700/9800 PRO cards.

I'm thinking probably the PowerColor Radeon 9700 Pro at 188 USD - still a very nice GPU - performance is not that far from the Radeon 9800 Pro and is a good buy at 188 USD. But if you can, jump to your local CompUSA store and get the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro - you won't regret it.

Hope that helps,

lil Jimmie is right, if you can find a retail Radeon 9700 non pro / pro you're lucky. If you do get one, a tip is if you buy the regular Radeon 9700 -- you can overclock it to a pro card or 9800 card. That's one of the reasons Radeon kinda did away with them was because of their easy overclocking. Realizing that their lower end card could be manipulated to equal or surpass the higher end stock 9800, they discretely yanked its production. Good luck.

I got Farcry a couple days ago, and it runs great with my 9800 pro. You missed the newegg sale a couple weeks ago, they had the Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro for $199 plus tax, probably one of the best buys I've seen in a while.

Spend the extra and get a 9800 pro. That's an order! ;)
