Formatting 160G HD in Win98SE...or *not*

Well this is going to be the ultimate test. Every question I've had during my build has been answered with speed. precision and grace every single time by the kind folks here at PC Mech. ( I know, I know. I'm spreading it on thicker than Arctic Silver 5 on a badly pitted heat sink) But I am up against something that has me absolutely bamboozled.

The problem:

How do you format (2) SATA 160G HD's in a RAID 1 array using Win98SE? My MB is an NF7-S ver.2 and as far as I can tell, the hardware controller that I set up in the bios to mirror both drives, will treat them as 1. But I'm left with my dilemma. How do I format the beast in Win98??

The fdisk program doesn't see above 137GB or so I've read over and over. Surely someone somwhere must be running Win98 on drives bigger than 137GB?....

I don't think so, you would first have to have a controler card like a promise, and the hard drive must be partitioned small enough for windows to see it.

or even a overlay program that may help.
but that method is not recommend.

it would be best to have the drive partitioned and formated before you try to install w98se on it.

the best recomendation I can give you is to forget the w98 and get with the xp program, and the problems would be over.

now I could be wrong on this, but it just my personal thoughts.

Thanks for your input Bailey. Your advice has been echoing in my ears everywhere I turn. I am officially conceding defeat! A kind soul at another forum gave me the following link, http://www.48bitlba.com/index.htm and by the time I was finished exploring the website, I decided to not risk data corruption down the road. I'm RMA'ing my twin 160's and I'll replace them with dual 120's.

But I will get the last word in....WAH!!!!!
